There are two main ways to share files from your Google Drive with your students.

First, you can share file inline, on any page, assignment, quiz, discussion, etc. using the Google Drive button in the Canvas Rich Content Editor. This button will either be in the main editor bar or in the dropdown depending on the order that the Google Drive app and other apps were added to your account:

Selecting the Google Drive button will open your Google Drive and allow you to browse your files, select the appropriate file to share. At that point you will have the option to share a link to the file or to embed the file. Sharing a link will place the document name on your Canvas page and automatically create the link back to that file.. Embedding a file will embed the item on your page, inline and around the other content you create on the page.

Second, you can share files directly in your modules. Since modules are typically connected to your unit, chapter, or week of study, this can be a great way to quickly and easily share files for students to use and interact with during your unit/chapter/week.

To add an item from your Google Drive to a module, either create a new module or add a new item to your module.

Then choose the "External Tool" option from the dropdown menu and select "Google Drive" from the list.

This will bring up a view of your Google Drive where you can select any file from your Drive to share to your module.

Click the "Submit" button to send this link to the Canvas content selector. Then click the "Add Item" button in the Canvas content selector and your item will be added to your module.
